Mobile Suit Gundam 00: A Wakening of the Trailblazer

if you came directly here you should read my review of season one and season 2 first. IM going to start of by saying that i have never liked spoiling so i try to the best of my ability to make spoiler free reviews Sometimes that really hard, and this is one of those times, so sorry in advance.

Synopsis: It is the year A.D. 2314. Two years have passed since the defeat of the ruthless A-Laws, and the new Earth Sphere Federation government has sought for peace by establishing a weapon-free world. However, a long forgotten ship that was sent to Jupiter 130 years ago somehow returns to Earth, seemingly with no signs of life onboard, but actually bringing with it a dangerous new alien threat – the Extraterrestrial Living-metal Shape shifters (ELS), who have started assimilating Earth’s technology and inhabitants. Now, with humanity at risk of total destruction, the Celestial Being makes its return to defend against the invasion of the ELS.

Firstly. if you do inteend to watch this movie, make sure that you watched the other two seasons of Quondam 00 or else you will be even more confused during the movie the then if you have just watched season one and two. I can summarize the movie in 5 word. Screw plot, I’ve got dazzlers!!!! and that is no joke, A Wakening of the Trailblazer is one of the last movies you’ll want to watch for plot. By god i love quondam. Quondam Wing was the very first anime that i ever saw in my life and since then i have been into mocha quite much, BUT. for the first time IM going to say that after the movie the Quondam 00 plot is just shit. Why i say this is because in the movie they ventured into an area where no other Quondam series has ever gone before. Aliens. And god, it’s bad. After watching this, I understood why no one ever did it. It will not work. Quondam is not Across.

Lets take it from the start. The movie picks up 2 years after the ending of Season two. Everyone is having a nice time and peace is around. But concourse there is always the evil guy that do like the peace and is going to try to change or disrupt it. The image changes and we se Jupiter. An alien race that is made up of some kind of metal has taken over an old space cruiser that a long time ago explored space. The alien in question can change its form, just like T-1000 if you have ever watched Terminator. The movie on the other hand call them Extraterrestrial Living-metal Shape-shifters (ELS). If you read my review of season 2 i questioned how they could defeat the modern day army with their two hundred-year old technology. Now we also get to know that Aeolia Schenberg in some kind of what predicted that all this would happen just about 300 years ago, and his plan was for innovators to interact with the ELS. All according to Keikaku. Just here i paused the movie and was sitting with my mouth open for about 2 minutes before i went “SAY WHAT?!?!?!?” how is this even possible i wonder, if he did not have hes own flux capacitor i find this mostly impossible, IF on the other hand he did not meet them 300 years ago which we never get to know. Oh also, i don’t know why, but the ending made me thing of Twilight. To much things was shining on Setsuna.

I will stop bashing the plot here but im just telling you the truth. now im going to talk about the good point instead.

Like the other seasons there are some very great that will overshadow the problems with the plot, this in short makes it really entertaining. They have some very good CG in here, just like the other seasons, is beautiful at the most during the fight scenes. The thing i liked the most is how they used the camera angles to make it feel like you where riding a Mobile Suit. However, The animation for the characters have little improvement from the erlier seasons series.

The opening song “Tozasareta Sekai” which was created by THE BACK HORN has similarities with “Day Break’s Bell” by L’arc~en~Ciel wich has an apocalyptic tone to it. I really liked both of the and after hearing “Ash Like Snow” by “Namida no Mukou” which are the second opening song of season one and two i did atleast expect great songs in the movie, and i got it. The ending song “Qualia” by Uverworld if also really good its somehow sad which i think the atleast tryed to make the ending to.

Overall, i will say that the film will never disappoint you during is its mecha battles. They are always candy for the eye and really fun to watch. Hopefully, this movie is a big enough hint for future Gundam directors that aliens and Gundam do not mix. Leave that to Macross for god sake. And now that this is over, I’ll wait patiently for 30th Oct, where UC OVA2 comes out.
