When this series was announced i was intressted to se how the new characters Alois and Claude would turn out to be like. The first episode introduce the two new antagonists very well.
From the start you are going to noticed that Ciel and Alois is quite different. The thing that will make them look a little bit alike is that Alois also had a traumatic past. What makes them different is how both of them go about in their lives while they approach those around them, this could not be more different. Ciel likes to have a Sebastian around as company and throughout the last season, Alois on the other hand treats Claude like crap.
I hate to give away spoilers but i will make an exception this time as it’s just half-way into the first episode where you will se a familiar face return and it you will get the feeling that an epic tale of hatred, rivalry, and nefarious scheming is about to begin. However, as the second episode begin you will feel like you just got shoot by a fireing squad as Alois and Claude gets put on the ignore list while thes story takes you on a walk in the sunshine insteed.
The two of them are like a totalt trainwreck that has completely derailed but is still interesting to watch. the antics of Alois is one of be bether things. The writers must have had a really great time when they where trying to portray him as this insane teenaged noble wich i belive they managed to do just great. The Writers had prepared a number of plot twists in an attempt to bring the very best out of these two characters.
Of course not all the characters this season were as intriguing to watch, one of the was Claude who seems more like an uptight and boring version of Sebastian and with a originality as your average donkey, he never really endears himself to the viewer. The three deamon brothers where quite fun to watch while Greil and the Viscount of Druitt were to much overdone.
The visuals of the series is a really strong point of Kuroshitsuji. It has quite a brilliantl mood set for the story with great colours and darker shadows that will cast themselves over the brightness, it is very delightful to watch this happening together with the integrated CG the series is using.
Kuroshitsuji II was a very good sequel to the already great first season. If you have not watched the first one yet you should do that before you watch this one as you may be confused otherwise as the story plays out without knowledge of what happend erlier. If you wonder about a third third season? it Is very unlikely. but at least this second season did not disappoint.
