Last Order: Final Fantasy VII

As i se it, this OVA is based on a game. It is said to “explore” the events of nibelheim that happened in the game, so in short the game is the base and anything that is wrong or missing in this OVA in just wrong.

When i first heard about this short OVA i did not want to se it, it sounded like a bad idea in my head. But now that i have watched it i can say that Last Order: Final Fantasy VII was really good, The animation is 1st rate. The majority of the OVA revolves around the action scenes that Zack, SOLDIER 1st class, participates in. The animation is fluid and doesn’t sputter for a moment as the OVA spans out. All the characters from Cloud to the common Shinra soldiers are well drawn and colored accordingly giving the game characters an excellent debut on the anime scene.

the OVA delves into the past series of events that led up to Cloud’s arrival in Midgar. From his escapades with Zack at the Mako Reactor in Nibelheim, a look into how they were originally captured by Hojo, to their grand escape from the hands of Shinra to Zacks death, the OVA gives us a small glimpse into the past of our lead in the game and fills in the small holes in Cloud’s past that are a necessary addition if we want to bring the entirety of the FF7 saga to completion from OVA to Game to Movie.

However, something good will always in my opinion come with something bad. The bad in this OVA is that there are loads of plotholes that will man you a little bit bitter if you have played the game. The biggest hole i could fin was an event where Tifa was going to talk to Clould which did not happen in the game at all, it felt like they just wanted a Cloud/Tifa moment instead of following the original story of the game.

If you have not yet watched this OVA i just want to say that you should watch it because of that epic Zack vs Sephitoth fight that is taking place, it is just brilliant and will make you feel a little tingly sensation, this sensation i got when Cloud was fighting Sephiroth in Advent Children.

In conclusion I thought this anime was brilliant! It shines as an anime adaptation of part of the original Final Fantasy VII story! If you can appreciate this I think you’ll like it a lot; otherwise it’s anyone’s guess. Now, if only Square could make an entire OVA this faithful, we might have a real masterpiece!
