I was sitting at work one day trying to find a new series to watch when a friend of my point me towards Shin Angyou Onshi saying it was this show about what you would call “a badass cop” doing whatever he wanted when he wanted, and you could say that is pretty much how it is. These “cops” are called “Angyou Onshi.” They were the police and the army of the king in an eastern country called Jushin and provided peace and protection. But then, the world became chaotic and Jushin was destroyed. There is, however, still one forlorn Angyou Onshi wandering in this world.
Angyou Onshi is based of a Korean manga with the same name, the manga ran from 2001 to 2007 and was animated in japan 2004. This was the very first collaboration between Japan and South Korea. When i watched the movie i was sure that it had taken a few random chapters from the manga and just mashed them into a movie as it may seem to be starting right in the middle of major events. However, The movie follows the first 7 chapters of the Angyou Onshi manga and actually starts with out main protagonist Munsu that we get to know is wandering the world in search of a man called Aji Tae who apparently destroyed hes country called Jushin. Munsu is
With just about 90 minutes of content they managed to make pretty good intro movie which good action, the bad thing is that there is no character development at all in the movie. The story is also quite confusing if you do not continue to read the manga after the movie is finished, there is quite a lot you find you in there about Munsu and why hes chasing Aji Tae, but i cant blame the creators since it is a movie after all where they have a limited time to cram as much as possible into it. I wonder why they never made it into a full series as the manga goes quite far beyond what the movie and with the rating it has a series i believe would have been welcome by all.
I was impressed with the animation for Shin Angyo Onshi as it is on quite a high lever for when it was made, i also uses a lot of CGI for special effect and summons. The backgrounds are also very good as they have payed a lot of attention to detail. The fighting scenes are also nice with a lot of movement and realistic approach, especially the hair has much more details than usual.
To conclude my review i would recommend anyone to watch Angyou Onshi as it is a really good movie with good action and a warm fuzzy part in the middle that you can se as the trailer above this review. I would however not suggest that you just leave after watching the movie but recommend you to go and read the manga afterwards as it continues just where the movie left of, the manga is really great and i hope that they will make it into a running series sometime.
