Trinity Blood

When i started Trinity Blood the first episodes kicked of with a bang, it is stunningly detailed with Beautifully designed characters and elegant animation, the designs of environments are also marvelous. The explosions and sparkling lighting are really good eye candy. Gonzo has really done a great job and there is only a handful of production companies can do what they do.

As i said Gonzo knows how to make good graphics, what trinity blood do not know is how to make a good story, it is not terrible but when presented it is quite disjointed. There is so many side storys that you wonder what they are trying to tell you and it will not make it better by not finishing of the story and leaves you cliffhanging in the end. When watching the series in it’s entirety it becomes quite frustrating to know that everything prior to the final were basically fillers and that the main plot is sped fed to us in heaps that we, the viewer, are expected to understand despite knowing almost nothing, i could put out a few questions really fast that made me confused.

  • Where did vampires appear?
  • Why did they attack us?
  • Why didn’t the vampires with their superior technology and supernatural powers simply wipe us out?
  • Why is humanity lead by Vatican? When did it took control of humanity’s military and political leadership?

It is really hard to review this anime without talking about other shows like Hellsing or Trigun as the writers have taken several personalties from other animes, put them in a bowl and out came Abel.

Abel Nightroad is a combination of Alucard, Vash and Kenshin. From his looks he seems to be 25-30 years old. Under the mask of clumsy priest from Vatican there’s something more than it seems. You still don’t know? Yes, a non-killing vampire who pretends to be Vash the Stampede. This is annoying for most part of the show, later reveals some of his more lethal powers and starts to make logical decisions.

I believe there have been enough bashing so lets instead move over to something good again. I was really impressed with the music. The majestic choral sequences and the classic sequences go hand in hand in adding a true feeling of gothic to the anime as the characters explore their world, the voice acting is good and the opening and ending themes are great.

In the end I would recommend it purely based on the excellent graphics, nice music and interesting world, you should at least give this a go and decide for yourself.
